There’s something to be said about legacy – the heritage passed on from one generation to the next. In a word: family. As a title: a name. Little known among the Helzer brand community is where the name originated. Helzer is a family name passed down through my mother’s side. By tradition, Helzer stems from the German lineage of the Holz clan, who garnered their name from the feudal forests they once managed and harvested. These craftsman were known as lumberjacks and wood smiths. Who would have known that some 600+ years later, well on the other side of the world, the family tradition of wood crafting would be revived in a whole new way.
Helzer wake surfs were born out of the desire for a totally unique experience on the water. The original wood wake surf prototype was built to solve the issue of our foam core wake surfs getting punctures, pressure dents and breaking. The characteristic beauty of the cedar and redwood was a bonus to our original intentions. As time went on, the building process continued to evolve and we kept hearing over and over how fast and smooth the boards ride. We found the weight of the natural materials allows a lower ride in the water, creating the effect of riding through the wake, eliminating the chop vibrations and pushy feel of the wave.
As we continue to grow, I want to say thank you – being a small company I appreciate you taking interest in what Helzer Wake Surf Co. is all about.
